"THE 8TH DAY" NOVEL

“THE 8TH DAY” is a gripping memoir that takes readers on an emotional rollercoaster through the American healthcare system. This powerful narrative follows one man's fight for survival as he navigates kidney failure, dialysis, and the complex world of organ transplantation. More than just a medical journey, it's a story of resilience, hope, and the unexpected kindness of strangers. This book offers a raw, honest look at the challenges faced by millions of Americans with chronic illnesses, while shining a light on the urgent need for healthcare reform. It's a must-read for anyone who has ever faced a medical crisis, cared for a loved one, or simply wants to understand the human cost of our current healthcare system.

CYCLES SHORT FILM WORLD PREMIERE

@chinwefilms Cycles is making its WORLD PREMIERE at the Florida Film Festival (@floridafilmfest) on April 13!

I had the privilege of working on this film last year while awaiting a kidney transplant, portraying a terminally ill character. It was especially meaningful to finally share the screen with my friend and fellow Texas State University (@txsttdf) alum, @mskendra1202. This is her character’s journey, and I was honored to support her. Wishing you continued success, sis!

Special thanks to graphic designer @rachelerodgerson for the incredible poster.

FAT HAM REGIONAL PREMIERE

Fat Ham

Jun. 06 - Jun. 29

A modern revamp of Shakespeare’s Hamlet, Fat Ham follows Juicy, a pensive young queere Black man finding his way in the world when the ghost of his father demands Juicy avenge his murder.

Hamlet is perhaps my all-time favorite play, and this fresh contemporary take - one that speaks to identity, joy, and dealing with family drama - is both hilarious and haunting,” says director Ben Wolfe. “At a time when it may feel like the world is falling apart around us, Fat Ham reminds us that we have the power to redefine our own narratives, to take our story back, to speak truth to power, and maybe, just maybe, to find our happy place along the way.”

Directed by Associate Artistic Director Ben Wolfe, with assistant direction by Theodore Jones, the cast features Albert Igbinigie as Juicy, Artistic Company Member Marc Pouhé as Rev/Pap, Yunina Barbour-Payne as Tedra, Addrian Shontai as Tio, Vivian Noble (She Was Here) as Opal, Nicholas Hunter (Emma, Big Fish) as Larry and Gina Houston as Rabby!

The production team also includes Mark Novick as lighting designer, Desireé Humphries as costume designer, Mike Toner as scenic designer, Ismael Soto III as properties designer, Robert S. Fisher as sound designer, Jennifer Sturley as dramaturg, and Barry Miller as stage manager.

Wanna Play

Apr. 04 - Apr. 19

Thursdays-Saturdays

Wanna Play explores the awkward courtship of making new friends as an adult. Two online video gamers get zapped into The Here, a mysterious realm without screens, cell phones, or technology. These two gamers must play old-school analog games to earn enough points to get back home. It’s The Wizard of Oz meets Squid Game performed live in a black box theatre.

Wanna Play is directed by ACC Associate Professor of Drama Jamie Rogers. Christine Hoang plays Gemma, a blunt Vietnamese American woman with the personality of a black cat. Travis Owens plays Ethan, a Southern white guy with the energy of a golden retriever. Michelle Alexander plays The Here’s mysterious guide Cappy, who the script describes as “not quite Dungeon Master, not quite White Rabbit, not quite Bob Barker.”

Marc Pouhé performs the voiceovers for video game characters Ograth the Ogre and Damon the Destroyer. Vanessa Hoang Hughes performs the voiceover for video game character Capybara.

Wanna Play includes an original song by Tyler Mabry (music) and Christine Hoang (lyrics) with hip-hop choreography by Daniel Broxton.
